Guest Speaker, Carl McCargo
Join us Sunday, January 17, 11am to hear Carl McCargo of UU's for a Just Economic Community speaking on Reparations: Rooted in Repair. Mr. McCargo will address how the chattel slavery consciousness is still alive today, and how reparations are the most powerful tool to help heal our nation.
Mr. McCargo holds a M.S. degree from the University of Massachusetts, and had a long career as a civil service psychologist, including 13 years as Clinical Director in Community Residential Services for the Dept. of Mental Retardation for the state of Massachusetts. As a young adult, he served in the Navy's Nuclear Field Electronics program for submarines. He has been an active UU leader since 1985, when he joined the Unitarian Universalist Society of Greater Springfield (UUSGS).
A special collection to benefit the Third Unitarian Austin Scholars award program will be part of the service. Since 1974, Austin Scholars has been supporting hundreds of outstanding high school seniors from the Austin community attending college.
